Pet Insurance.

Vet bills over recent years have been rocketing  and the average cost of treatment for a pedigree cat is now £420, 28 per cent more than a year ago, and the cost of treatment for a pedigree dog has risen over 13% to £469. The rising costs has led to 13 insurers pulling out of the pet insurance market over the last 3 years.

With the costs rocketing it has never been more important to have a good pet insurance policy for your pet so that if you are in the unfortunate position that your animal needs treatment you have the piece of mind that the bills will be taken care of by the insurer.

Currently we are unaware of any companies offering pet insurance deals specifically for the over 50s, but below are some offers on pet insurance that are available.

New research from Sainsbury's Pet Insurance shows the average annual cost of owning a dog is currently £1,183. If inflation and rising costs are taken into account, a puppy bought today could see the annual cost of looking after it rise by around 20% to £1,418 during its life expectancy, which is on average 13 years. The average annual cost of owning a cat is a slightly lower £1,028 but this could increase to an annual cost of £1,270 in 15 years' time - the average life expectancy of a pet cat in the UK.

*10% of customers who purchased a new Asda Pet Insurance between January 2011 and September 2012 paid this price or less.
